Halifax County Virginia receives $69,000 Weather Radio Transmitter Grant from USDA

San Juan County, Utah Dedicates the New NOAA Weather Radio Transmitter on Abajo Peak

On January 22, 2007, Liz Black, USDA Rural Development Manager presented an award to the San Juan County, Utah Commission during the dedication ceremony of the new NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) transmitter on Abajo Peak. UDSA funded a $21,360 Weather Radio Transmitter grant to the county for the early warning system that will alert residents about disasters, hazards and emergencies. The NWR transmitter broadcast covers San Juan County, Utah, a large portion of the Navajo Nation in the Four Corners area, and a significant portion of southwest Colorado.

 

Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Emergency Management Receives $59,900 USDA Weather Radio Transmitter Grant

On February 20, 2008, U.S. Rep. Thelma Drake, and Ellen Davis, USDA RD Virginia State Director, presented a $59,900 Weather Radio Transmitter Grant award to the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Emergency Management, for its Accomack County, Virginia site. The event took place at the Town Hall in Onancock, VA. The grant funds will be used for the purchase and installation of a 1000-watt dual transmitter and antenna. The transmitter will provide NOAA Weather Radio all Hazards Broadcast to Accomack County, towns and locations along Route 13, and the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
