Mission Statement:

The Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development (IEED) was established within the Office of the Secretary, Indian Affairs, U.S. Department of the Interior to provide high-level support for the Department’s goal of serving tribal communities by providing access to energy resources and helping tribes stimulate job creation and economic development.

 

Spotlight

KILI Wind Turbine
The Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development (IEED) has made possible the installation of a 65 kW wind turbine to power the KILI Radio Station (“Voice of the Lakota People”) at the Pine Ridge Reservation in Porcupine, South Dakota. IEED representatives took part in a ceremony on June 25, 2008 marking the attachment of the machine’s three blades to its tower. The Oglala Sioux Tribe will formally commission the machine on July 31, 2008.

IEED focuses on increasing the economic vitality of American Indians and Alaska Natives. IEED has a multi-disciplined staff of professionsals committed to achieving long-term goals of promoting Indian econmic development, increasing tribal business knowledge, increasing jobs and businesses, increasing capital investment, and providing assistance for developing energy and mineral resources.
