DEQ Commemorates 40th Anniversary with History Timeline
Mt. Hood and Mirror Lake
Oregon has always been a "green" state. But being a leader in environmental stewardship hasn't happened overnight. There was a time when Oregon settlers didn't understand the impacts of pollution on our environment. A new DEQ History Timeline -- produced in honor of the agency's 40th anniversary and the State of Oregon's 150th anniversary -- traces Oregon's environmental history since the state's first environmental law in 1889.

See how far Oregon has come, and learn what DEQ has done to protect and improve the quality of life for Oregon residents over the past 40 years. We think you'll agree, it's something worth celebrating!

Gov. Ted Kulongoski has created The Oregon Way Advisory Group to assist state agencies seeking federal competitive grants as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestiment Act. The Adisory Group will work with state agencies to develop grant proposals supporting sustainabilty, renewable energy, carbon reduction, energy efficiency and green development.

DEQ will administer an estimated $53 million or more in Recovery Act funding for environmental projects in Oregon.
Public Comment Sought on Draft Pollutant List
DEQ has released a draft list of 175 priority, persistent pollutants that affect the toxicity of Oregon's rivers and streams. DEQ will refine the list as part of its efforts to better identify and eventually reduce toxics in the environment, and would like public comment on the draft list by March 27.

Public information sessions will be held throughout the state in March. Public comment may be submitted in person or by e-mail through this website.
