Governor Doyle Announces Bid Opening for First ARRA Road, Bridge Projects in Wisconsin

MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle today announced the opening of bids for the first road and bridge projects in Wisconsin to benefit from funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  Bids will be opened tomorrow, Tuesday, April 28, for 26 state and 19 local road and bridge projects.

“Opening these bids is a big step toward putting people to work here in Wisconsin,” Governor Doyle said. “I’ve asked for the bid review process to proceed quickly so that I can execute these contracts and get workers out on our bridges and roads as soon as possible.  And while this is an expedited process, we will do all we can to ensure that our efforts to put our economy back on track and build a solid foundation for future growth are accountable and transparent.”

Contractors are required to submit the bids electronically or via hard copy to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) by 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.  Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the bids will be opened and publicly read at the Hill Farms State Office Building in Madison to determine the lowest bidders.

State law calls for construction contracts to be awarded to the lowest responsible bidder. WisDOT will review the bids for completeness and accuracy. After comprehensive reviews have occurred, Governor Doyle executes and signs contracts to allow construction work to begin.

The state intends to get construction activities underway on the state and local projects during this summer construction season.

The bids are for the following state and local road and bridge projects:  http://www.wisgov.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=16506
