The
Office of the Law Revision Counsel of the House of Representatives prepares
and publishes the United States Code, which is the codification by subject matter
of the laws of the United States. You can either search the
U.S. Code database or browse through the
Code titles. Unlike some of the other free U.S. Code resources, this site
allows you to download the entire title or chapter rather than just the
individual sections. You can also search prior versions of the
U.S. Code (1994 & 1988).
The Office also publishes the
U.S. Code Classification Tables that show where recently enacted laws will appear in
the Code and any sections of the Code that have been amended by those laws. The
tables are one resource that can be used to help update statutory law as mentioned in an earlier
tip.
The Office of the Law Revision Counsel makes every effort to ensure that the
U.S. Code database on the Web is accurate, but they still advise verifying any
results against the printed version of the Code.
