Southwest Region, July 18, 2008
Print Friendly Version
Dave Smith, wildlife biologist from the Phoenix Ecological Service Office, participated in the Arizona Rivers Workshop for teachers at Motezuma Well National Monument north of Camp Verde,  Arizona.  Arizona Rivers, a nonprofit organization, is looking for teachers, students, citizen scientists, and student organizations who are interested in partnering with volunteer river monitors and local watershed experts to develop local stream and riparian monitoring networks.  They held a four day workshop for Arizona teachers and students at Mingus Springs, Mingus Mountain, Arizona.  Dave instructed teachers on collecting and identifying aquatic macroinvertebrates as part of water quality assessment monitoring.  He provided nets, sorting trays and tweezers and led teachers into Wet Beaver Creek to collect specimens.  Approximately 15 teachers and students participated in this activity.
