The Ashland National Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources collected 200 invasive round goby and 200 invasive ruffe for the purpose of aquatic invasive species (AIS) education.

These invasive fish were collected from two Lake Superior tributaries and shipped frozen to NASCO, a company located in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, that provides preserved invasive species for educational purposes.

Education is a vital component of AIS control, and has been identified as one of three components most effective in the success of the Ruffe Control Plan, the other two being ballast water management and surveillance.
