During the week of August 13-17, water flow was redirected from a road ditch, channelized in the 1960’s, to its original meandering streambed, known as Silver Creek, in Clearwater County, Minnesota.

Through the installation of new corrugated metal pipes, geotextile material, rock riprap, and  herbaceous vegetation, this partnership project restored the ecological integrity of 1500 feet of riparian habitat, including a two acre scrub-shrub wetland.

The work has improved fish and waterfowl habitat, enhanced water quality, and ameliorated a badly eroding township road. In addition to the Tamarac Wetland Management District, partners included two private landowners, the Red Lake Watershed District, Eddy Township, and the Clearwater County Soil and Water Conservation District, contributing a total of $42, 658 to the project.
