Twin Cities Field Office Partners On Wind Power Projects Toward Migratory Bird Resource Benefits
Midwest Region, July 6, 2007
Print Friendly Version

Wind farm projects are being proposed in western Minnesota at an exponential pace; six projects of 10 turbines or more are currently under review.

Three of these projects are located in the same county in Minnesota.

To ensure protection of trust resources, Twin Cities Field Office staff have pursued an integrated and inclusive approach to environmental review, working closely with Refuges and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources staff to provide local knowledge of sensitive habitats and species within individual project areas.

The Twin Cities office also coordinates closely with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to review wind turbine projects funded through their renewable energy grant program and participates in joint agency and developer field reviews to identify and resolve environmental concerns.
