The Lower Great Lakes Fishery Resources Office (LGLFRO) celebrated National Fishing and Boating Week by holding its 6th Fish and Wildlife Festival on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Hyde Park in Niagara Falls, NY.  The LGLFRO and the Friends of the LGLFRO partnered with the City of Niagara Falls and the Niagara River Anglers Association(NRAA), to sponsor a youth fishing contest in conjunction with the Festival.  Mayor Vincenzo Anello of the City of Niagara Falls and Paul Pajak from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service joined Paul Jackson, President of the NRAA, to present awards to the fishing contestants. Corporate sponsors included the Lawley Service Insurance Group, Niagara's Choice Federal Credit Union, GEICO, DDM Direct, Wegmans, AES Somerset, New York Power Authority, Community Emergency Response Team, Tops Friendly Markets, Gander Mountain, Gerry's Service, and The Summit.  The event was a tremendous success with approximately 300 kids participating in the fishing contest and over 3200 people attending the Festival.

The 2007 Festival was larger than any of the previous festivals, with 31 government and non-government partners participating.  Other participating U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service partners included the Allegheny National Fish Hatchery (Warren, PA), Sea Lamprey Assessment and Control Unit (Marquette, MI), Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge and Amherst Law Enforcement.  In addition, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, U.S. Coast Guard Auxillary, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, New York Sea Grant, Niagara County Health Department Environmental Division, NY Power Authority, Lake Ontario LaMP, and the Niagara Aquarium also participated.  The 2007 Festival also reached out to local conservation groups such as the Buffalo Audubon Society, Trout Unlimited, Custom Trout and Salmon Flies, AWARE, SPCA, Foxwood Wildlife Rescue, and Exotic Cat Rescue.

Displays and presentations of live animals from Buffalo Zoomobile, Institute for Environmental Learning (birds of prey), Nature's Mark (reptiles), and Monkey Business (primate sanctuary) captivated audiences.  The 2007 festival emphasized developing awareness and fostering stewardship among the youth.  Besides fishing, the LGLFRO encouraged children of all ages to participate by providing a variety of youth activities.  The youth activities tent featured hands on activities such as interactive computer "games", crafts, and face painting.
