Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge staff continued to provide support and cooperation to the Texas Department of Transportation and Blanton and Associates Consultants regarding a study to determine the effectiveness of wildlife crossings that will be installed during the reconstruction of FM106, a road crossing through the refuge.  The pre-construction phase of this monitoring project continued in May, including trapping and radiotelemetry activities.  One ocelot was captured and radiocollared through this study on May 9, 2007 in the Laguna Atascosa Unit (subunit 6) of the refuge.  This female ocelot was approximately 10 years old and had been last captured and collared by the refuge in 2003 in the same area.  The ocelot was fitted with a new radiocollar, measured, and released.
