Birders from far and wide flocked to Kenai for the 2007 Kenai Shorebird Celebration
Birders from far and wide flocked to Kenai for the 2007 Kenai Shorebird Celebration

Kenai National Wildlife Refuge partnered with the Kenai Convention and Visitors Bureau, Kenai Watershed Forum, and the Keen-Eye Bird Club in hosting a two-day shorebird celebration and workshop May 16 and 19.  The event included workshops and presentations on photography, migration and life history information, and birding tips.  A special program was designed for youngsters as they consider pursuing birding as a passion or a profession in the future.  Field trips were held near Kasilof and on the Kenai "Birding" Flats. The birds cooperated and provided ample opportunity for viewing.  Over 100 people participated in the event with some traveling from as far away as New Jersey and Japan.
