Deputy Regional Director visits Lower Colorado River Vegetation Clearing project
Southwest Region, April 9, 2007
Print Friendly Version
Deputy Regional Director, Todd Jones and AESO Assistant Field Supervisor, Sherry Barrett, visited the Lower Colorado River Limitrophe, where Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are clearing vegetation to increase visibility and reduce crime, which is resulting from illegal immigration and smuggling.  The clearing is being conducted by the Bureau of Reclamation on BLM land.  Currently 214 acres are being cleared, and another 200 acres further south will be recleared of vegetation.  BLM is working with the CBP and FWS to identify additional areas along the river that will be cleared in the next fiscal year, which they will address in a forthcoming environmental assessment and section 7 consultation.
