Reporter Patrick McGrath toured the Poplar Island restoration Project with Chesapeake Bay Field Office Biologist Pete McGowan. Once a haven for wildlife, Poplar Island was slipping away due to erosion. The Poplar Island Restoration project will restore 1,100 acres using dredge spoil from shipping channels. Since there is little vegetation on the island right now, Christmas trees were hauled to Poplar and attached to driftwood and piled up near wetlands.
