Northeast Region, February 21, 2007
Print Friendly Version
Staff from the Lower Great Lakes Fisheries Resource Office hosted a visit by the Great Lakes ecology class at the University of Buffalo.  Twenty-one undergraduate students learned about the Service and fisheries resource office activities within the northeast and Great Lakes.  Presentations on native and invasive species, habitat restoration, federal lands, education/outreach, and GIS were provided.  Staff provided students with descriptions and demonstrations of sampling gear used in the field such as trammel nets, backpack electrofishing, and water quality instruments.  In the laboratory, students learned about aging fish using scales and otoliths as well as tagging techniques.
