Arlington Field Office to cooperate on Trinity Basin Conservation Initiative
Southwest Region, September 5, 2006
Print Friendly Version
On September 5, 2006, Texas Governor Rick Perry announced that the State of Texas is dedicating $500,000 in seed money to kick start an initiative in the Trinity River Basin of Texas to preserve and restore vital land and water resources.  During press conferences in both Arlington and Houston, the Governor indicated that the funding will go to the Texas Water Resources Institute at Texas A&M University who will be partnering with Trinity Basin Conservation Foundation and numerous other federal, state, and local agencies, conservation organizations, and private landowners.  The Foundation and its members have come together to address the economic and environmental challenges facing their communities and properties in the Trinity Basin.  The Foundation will be working with the Service, among others, to identify important fish and wildlife conservation opportunities and needs, potential funding sources, and putting projects on the ground that will make a positive contribution to the overall ecological health of this important Texas river system.
