Bird Enthusiasts Learns About Birds at Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge
Northeast Region, June 24, 2006
Print Friendly Version
On Saturday, June 24, Bill Sheehan, local expert birder and refuge friends group member, provided the public with a bird's eye view of birding at Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge in Maine.  Over a dozen bird enthusiasts gathered at the refuge in the early morning hours. Participants explored several habitat types located on the refuge and learned to identify a variety of bird species by sight and sound.  The "species of the day" was the Upland Sandpiper, which may be nesting on the refuge for the first time in at least 5 years.  Another walk is scheduled for July 15 2006.
