ENVIRONMENTAL RISK ASSESSMENTS - GRADUATE STUDENT PROJECTS
Southwest Region, May 10, 2006
Print Friendly Version
Two graduate students from the Environmental Risk Assessment class at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, under the guidance of Dr. Larisa Ford from the Corpus Christi Ecological Services Field Office (CCESFO) developed class projects during the spring semester that assessed the potential impacts of two proposed projects on endangered species and migratory birds.  One student assessed the potential impacts of the proposed Calhoun Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal at Point Comfort, Texas on bald eagles, brown pelican nesting areas, and colonial waterbird nesting areas.  The other student assessed the potential impacts and expected benefits of the Brownsville Resaca Restoration project on a variety of federally-listed species and migratory birds.  The students prepared reports and PowerPoint presentations for their class and their research findings were incorporated into the CCESFO responses to project sponsors’ requests for information in preparation of NEPA documents.
