Bosque del Apache's  refuge manager retired on January 3, 2006 after 38 years in a natural resource career. Jim began working for the Service at Salton Sea NWR, then moved on to Alaska Peninsula/Becharof NWR; Fish Springs NWR in Utah; Pocosin Lakes NWR in North Carolina and finally Bosque del Apache arriving August of 2000. During his term at the refuge, many projects were completed including the NAWCA project which removed 1000 acres of saltcedar, developing and implementing a water management plan for the existing wetlands and the NAWCA area, upgrades in facilities, structures, roads and a new public restroom to handle large crowds during the Festival of the Cranes.
