Recent Acquisition Adds Land to Cape May National Wildlife Refuge
Northeast Region, September 1, 2005
Print Friendly Version

The Conservation Fund recently assisted the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in acquiring over 300 acres, which was added to Cape May National Wildlife Refuge. The Conservation Fund worked in cooperation with Cape May County, the state of New Jersey, and two contributing corporations, Dupont and Centex Homes, to purchase the nearly $2M property from the water utility and city of Wildwood, New Jersey. The property currently consists of forested uplands and wetlands, and agricultural fields. The fields will be converted to wildlife habitat in the future. The habitat protection will benefit migratory birds, including songbirds, raptors, and American woodcock.
