KENAI: Refuge Re-opens Emma Lake Trail
Alaska Region, August 1, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Kenai National Wildlife Refuge staff have re-built and re-opened the Emma Lake Trail located at the far end of Tustumena Lake. The trail was partially obliterated during the August 2004 Glacier Creek Fire and had to be completely reconstructed on the lower one and a half miles. In some cases, the trail had to be relocated to avoid holes created by the fire and large amounts of deadfall had to be removed. The trail is once again ready for the public to access the Refuge cabin at Emma Lake and to reach popular hunting and camping areas in the alpine wilderness above the lake. The trail crew also cleared over 400 beetle-killed spruce from the nearby Moose Creek Trail and cleared the Doc Pollard Horse Trail along Tustumena Lake to as far as the Nurse's Cabin.
