Teaching wildfire operations in the wildland-urban interface
Northeast Region, June 4, 2005
Print Friendly Version
In fiscal year 2005, the Northeast Region Fire Management Office taught Wildfire Operations In the Wildland Urban Interface, a four-day course, to 88 federal, state, and local firefighters at four different locations: October 2004 at the New York State Wildfire Academy, February 2005 at NCTC, May 2005 at the Virginia Wildfire Academy, and June 2005 at the Midwest Wildfire Academy. The office sponsored the course, with Gerald Vickers, regional wildland urban interface specialist, serving as the course coordinator and lead instructor, and Steven Hubner, regional regional wildland urban interface coordinator, serving as a unit instructor.

This course provides an important platform for structural and wildland firefighters who must make tactical decisions when confronting wildland fires that threaten life, property, and improvements, in the wildland urban interface.

For more information, contact Steven Hubner, NE Region Fire Management Office, at 757-986-3409 x104.
