Rio Grande Fishes Recovery Team Meets
Southwest Region, May 19, 2005
Print Friendly Version
The Rio Grande Fishes Recovery Team met on May 18-19 in Fort Stockton, Texas. Participants included partners from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, The Nature Conservancy, City of Fort Stockton, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and Big Bend National Park. The Team discussed the status of recovery actions for eight listed fishes, and conservation status of six other rare aquatic species. Pecos County provided the meeting hall (a building restored from the original construction in the 1870's) and the City of Fort Stockton gave the group a walking tour of historic Fort Stockton and of the historic Comanche Springs (former home to two listed fishes). TPWD led a discussion of the possibility for restoration of Comanche Springs, and a group dinner was held at the city park, where Comanche Springs is located.
