Three American Bald Eaglets Produced on Third Island Unit of Silvio O. Conte NFWR
Northeast Region, May 19, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Refuge SCEP student Joe Smith accompanied staff from the Massachusetts Department of Fisheries and Wildlife on May 19, 2005 to band three eaglets on Third Island, a 4-acre island in the Connecticut River in Deerfield, Massachusetts. This island was donated to the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge in 1997. The eagles must have seen the "Blue Goose" signs - they moved in and produced their first two eaglets just last year. The refuge continues to partner with Northeast Utilities to broadcast a live video of activities in another eagle nest on utility land in Gill, Massachusetts to 10,000 cable TV subscribers in the local area. The stars of "Eagle Cam" only produced one eaglet this year. While the refuge's website is being redesigned, this robust youngster can also be seen at http://www.nu.com/eagles/default.asp
