Teachers School with Salmon
Northeast Region, January 13, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Thirty schools in western Massachusetts are growing Atlantic salmon in their classrooms, thanks to a cooperative environmental education program with Trout Unlimted and the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. The program better equips teachers to convey to their students a deeper understanding of environmental issues associated with restoring salmon to local streams through hands-on training that culminates in the students' stocking their own fish.

The teachers trained at an all-day session at Greenfield Community College, where speakers included a biologist from Normandeau Associates and a veterinarian from the Wildlife Trust.
