Print Friendly Version
Share the Beach, Alabama's sea turtle conservation program, was awarded the Secretary's 4 C's Award. Wildlife Biologist Jereme Phillips accepted the award on behalf of the refuge at the Department of Interior 62nd Annual Honor Awards Convocation held February 2. Bon Secour National NWR administers Share the Beach, which is a partnership of state, federal, and local agencies, private individuals, and environmental organizations. The program has grown from 30 volunteers in 2001 to more than 200 volunteers today. Share the Beach volunteers patrol 45 miles of beach during the nesting season, mark and monitor nests, and promote the conservation of sea turtles in Alabama through public outreach and education.
