FWS assists Chalk Mountain Ecosystem Wildlife Management Association
Southwest Region, November 30, 2004
Print Friendly Version
On November 30, 2004, the Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program Texas Coordinator attended a meeting of the Chalk Mountain Ecosystem Wildlife Management Association, along with a group of private landowners near Glen Rose, Texas, who have come together to cooperatively manage their properties for the benefit of resident wildlife species, waterfowl, and the federally listed black-capped vireo and golden-cheeked warbler. Collectively, the Association totals over 60,000 acres of privately controlled property. In attendance were Association members and representatives from agencies and NGOs who have provided technical and/or financial assistance to members of the Association, which included the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Texas Forest Service, Environmental Defense, Texas Cooperative Extension Service, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. One of the Association members has a PFW program private lands agreement with the Service as well. Association members hope to secure additional funding from these agencies and groups in the near future to continue their conservation efforts.
