FWS Provides Fire Danger Signs to Local Fire Departments
10 Region, January 1, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Denver, Colorado - For the second year, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Mountain-Prairie Region funded part of a partnership effort designed to communicate daily fire danger information to the public through cooperating local fire departments and national wildlife refuges. Ten ?Fire Danger? signs were purchased by contract with regional wildland-urban interface (WUI) funds and distributed to various refuges throughout the eight-state region. The signs are designed to be installed on the property of local fire departments, which are usually located on well-traveled roads. The fire departments provide the installation and agree to maintain the fire danger message in a timely manner. The signs contain space for the display of all cooperating agencies/departments.
