Watershed Education Effort Reaches 1,400 4th Graders

USFWS personell from both Regions 3 and 6 assisted in the three-day Red River Water Festival education effort hosted by River Keepers of Fargo. The event was held in Moorhead, Minn., Sept. 30- Oct. 2.

More than 60 classes of primarily fourth graders from the Fargo-Moorhead area participated in the interactive education festival. National Wildlife Refuge System personell from the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center, Tewaukon NWR, Valley City WMD, Arrowood NWR and WMD and Detroit Lakes WMD all particpated in the event. Classes particpating in the festival attended for half-day increments and participated in four interactive activities. Service personnel used the "Wetland Web" activity to illustrate the interdependence of species in the wetland ecosystem. Well over 500 students participated in the wetland web activity.
