Wage and Hour Opinion Letters

To locate Department of Labor Wage & Hour opinion letters, the database you will need to search is FLB-WHOL.

Coverage of Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) opinion letters begins in January 1970 and coverage of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) opinion letters begins in June of 1993. References to individuals, their addresses and their businesses may be confidential and are deleted from some of the opinion letters.

NOTE: Searching this database is often very tricky. Searching by Company and/or address or date may not be possible so it is best to search by KEYWORD and a date range.

The Wirtz Labor Law Library has in its print collection copies of most Wage & Hour opinion letters dated 1961 - 2004. See the previous tip "DOL Opinion Letters" for information about online access to more recent letters. Researchers can also contact the library for assistance locating older opinion letters.
