Priority Setting Activities
Priority Setting is one of three major components of the Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program (EDSP) (the other two are assay development and validation and development of program policies and procedures to require testing). Over the past few years, many activities have taken place related to priority setting, including:
- Publishing the Final List of Initial Pesticide Active Ingredients and Pesticide Inert Iingredients to be Screened under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (PDF) (7pp., 62KB, About PDF ), in a Federal Register Notice in April 2009.
- Implementing its approach for the priority setting process to select chemicals within the scope of EDSP. EPA generated a draft list of chemicals for initial Tier 1 screening and published the draft list of chemicals in a Federal Register Notice, Draft List of Initial Pesticide Active Ingredients and Pesticide Inerts to be Considered for Screening under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act [PDF file, 18pp., 131KB, About PDF ], in June 2007.
- Publishing a final approach for chemical selection. EPA reviewed comments received in response to the proposed approach and published a final Chemical Selection Approach for Initial Screening [PDF file, 17pp., 125KB, About PDF ] in a Federal Register Notice in September 2005.
- Developing a priority setting approach for chemical selection. This approach incorporated recommendations made by a Federal advisory committee, the Endocrine Disruptor Screening and Testing Advisory Committee (EDSTAC), in a report issued in August 1998. To accomplish this, EPA established an internal intra-Agency Priority Setting Workgroup that met regularly to address priority setting in the EDSP. EPA initially published a Proposed Chemical Selection Approach for Initial Tier 1 Screening [PDF file, 19pp., 119KB, About PDF] in a Federal Register Notice for comment in December 2002.
