Clean Processes

The mission of the Clean Processes Branch (CPB) is to develop and demonstrate clean technologies for pollution prevention, recycling and reuse, and to estimate their environmental consequences through industrial ecology approaches such as life cycle assessment. In addition, an effort to making findings place-based at the watershed and community level are incorporated where possible. The major research emphases are as listed below:

Watersheds Environmental & Impact Analysis

This project seeks to assess the environmental sustainability of various types of animal feeding operations by developing and deploying life cycle analysis tools and environmental economics tools.

Chemical Process Simulation for Waste Reduction: WAR Algorithm

The WAR algorithm is for estimating the human health and environmental impact of chemicals. This algorithm is sophisticated and flexible enough to allow users to emphasize or deemphasize different hazards as needed for particular applications.

Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship

This project seeks to develop Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (QSAR) methodologies and software to estimate toxicity of compounds from their molecular structure.
