Mission Statement
The mission of the Areawide Pest Management Research Unit is to develop and integrate multiple strategies and technologies into systems approaches for management of arthropod pests of field crops.  Research objectives include elucidation of pest biology and ecology; isolation, identification, synthesis, formulation, and evaluation of pest attractants and other biologically-based products; identification of neuropeptides and development of mimics that regulate critical pest life processes and reduce pest infestations; and improvement of aerial application technologies that reduce drift and increase active material deposit on target crops. Overall, the research of the Unit is directly aimed at reducing the risk and use of synthetic pesticides by developing pest management programs that are preventive rather than reactive.
