Interstate Technology Regulatory Council (ITRC) logo

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is partnering with the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) to assist with its MTBE and TBA Classroom Training Course "MTBE & TBA–Comprehensive Site Assessment and Successful Groundwater Remediation." USGS scientist James Landmeyer is on the team of instructors for the course. The course is offered on

  • December 16–17, 2004, Denver, Colorado
  • May 10-11, 2004, at Rutgers University EcoComplex, Bordentown, New Jersey
  • December 16-17, 2003, at Stony Brook University on Long Island, New York

The course will present information on:

  • Chemical, physical, and biological characteristics of fuel oxygenates, such as methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and tert-butyl alcohol (TBA), and how these characteristics control the fate of oxygenates in the environment.
  • Methodologies and protocols for characterization of fuel oxygenate plumes.
  • Current remediation technologies available for cleaning up ground water contaminated with fuel oxygenates. Dr. Landmeyer will present USGS science on the natural attenuation of MTBE and TBA.
