  1. Alliance Background

    Overview:

    The Oklahoma Division of Labor/Consultation, the Independent Construction Contractor Associations and Francis Tuttle Technology Center hereto referred to as the Construction Alliance, promotes an awareness of safety and health issues and solutions affecting the construction industry in Oklahoma. The goal of the alliance is improved work site conditions, with an emphasis on reducing and preventing exposure to those hazards that are the leading causes of fatalities and serious injuries in the construction industry (falls, electrocutions, struck-by and caught-in/between hazards), through training, education and information sharing..

    Training and Education
     
    • Events:

      Members of the Construction Alliance Implementation Team provided a ½ training program on "Teen Workers In Construction" (hazard awareness) for teens participating in a summer program with Oklahoma Workforce

      Member of the Construction Alliance Implementation Team provided a ½ day "Contractor Safety Awareness" training program for local construction contractors that focused on: OSHA’s Multi-Employer Worksite Policy, Scaffolding/Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, and Controlling Your Workers’ Compensation Exposure

      With consent of the presenters, at the Contractors Safety Awareness training program, PPT presentations were made available to participants via e-mail

    • Events:

      2 Implementation Team Members spoke at a Independent Electrical Contractors luncheon meeting about the Construction Alliance / OSHA Consultation Services

      2 Implementation Team Members spoke at the Association of Subcontractors luncheon about OSHA / fatalities / Construction Alliance

      The following information was provided by the Oklahoma City OSHA Area Office in follow-up to subjects raised during Implementation Team meetings, in response to phone queries by individuals in construction, or subjects raised at other alliance meetings and then provided to Implementation Team members for distribution to industry contacts/membership:

      Data/description of fatality incidents in OKC area of jurisdiction.
      Data/description of fatality incidents Region wide.
      Data/description of violations cited by OKC AO inspection activity.

      Follow-up clarifying and/or explanatory information related to:
      FR clothing
      PPE Standard
      Material Handling

      Provided following information:
      Hazard Alert: "UL Warning of Potentially Hazardous Portable Work Light".
      Warning Notice: Dewalt Recalls Table Saws due to Laceration Hazard.
      NOISH Safety and Health Webpage on Construction.
      OSHA Ergonomics in Construction e-Tool.

      Newsletter article on the coverage of "Temporary Workers".
      Newsletter article on "OSHA’s PPE Payment Standard".

  5. Upcoming Milestones

    For CY 2009 the principle goal is to expand participation in the Construction Alliance with an emphasis on reaching smaller companies and contractors and facilitating SHE training opportunities
