The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the NJ State Safety
Council (NJSSC) and the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety (NJDHTS) recognize the value
of continuing a collaborative relationship to foster safer and more healthful American workplaces.
OSHA, NJSSC and NJDHTS therefore agree to renew their Alliance signed on April 21st, 2004 to provide
New Jersey workers and other interested parties, such as students / young workers, non-English
speaking workers and senior drivers, with information, guidance and access to training resources
that will help protect employee health and safety particularly, in reducing and preventing motor
vehicle collisions.
In renewing this Alliance, OSHA, NJSSC and NJDHTS recognize that OSHA’s NJ Department of Labor and
Workforce Development (LWD) State Plan and Consultation Programs are an integral part of this
Alliance and the OSHA national effort.
OSHA, NJSSC and NJDHTS will work together to achieve the following training and education goals:
- Develop safe driver training and education programs for New Jersey workers and other interested
parties, such as students / young workers, senior drivers and non-English speaking workers.
- Deliver or arrange for the delivery of the OSHA 10 Plus Safety and Health Program, which will
include a safe driving component, for New Jersey workers and other interested parties such as
students / young workers, non-English speaking workers and senior drivers.
OSHA, NJSSC and NJDHTS will work together to achieve the following outreach and
communication goals:
- Develop and disseminate worker safe driving information at OSHA, NJSSC and NJDHTS safety
conferences, meetings and events, and through print and electronic media, including links from the
OSHA, NJSSC and NJDHTS Websites: www.osha.gov www.njsafety.org and www.state.nj.us/lps/hts/
- Speak, exhibit, or appear at OSHA, NJSSC, NJDHTS and other Alliance partner’s conferences,
meetings or other events such as the Building Contractors Association Annual Career Fair, NJ
Cooperative Education Coordinators Association monthly meetings and the annual Safety & Loss Control
Expo.
- Share information on safe driving practices with other state OSHA offices, small business
development centers and student/youth worker associations.
- Encourage OSHA, NJSSC and NJDHTS members, and in particular, bi-lingual members, to present the
safe driving program and related materials to small business owners, young drivers, senior drivers
and non-English speaking workers.
OSHA, NJSSC and NJDHTS will work together to achieve the following goals related
to promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:
- Raise others’ awareness of and demonstrate their own commitment to safe driving whenever OSHA,
NJSSC and NJDHTS staff address groups such as high school students, senior drivers and others.
- Develop and disseminate case studies and success stories illustrating the business and social
value of driver safety and publicize their results in OSHA, and NJSSC newsletters and other media
such as local newspapers.
- Convene or participate in forums, roundtable discussions or meetings on safe driving issues to
help forge innovative solutions.
OSHA’s Alliances provide parties an opportunity to participate in a voluntary cooperative
relationship with OSHA for purposes such as training and education, outreach and communication and
promoting a national dialogue on workplace safety and health. These Alliances have proven to be
valuable tools for both OSHA and its Alliance participants. By entering into an Alliance with a
party, OSHA is not endorsing any of that party’s products or services; nor does the Agency enter
into an Alliance with the purpose of promoting a particular party’s product or services.
An implementation team made up of representatives of all signing organizations will meet to develop
a plan of action, determine procedures, and identify the roles and responsibilities of the
participants. In addition, they will meet quarterly to track and share information on activities and
results in achieving the goals of the Alliance.
This agreement will remain in effect for two years. Any signatory may terminate from the Alliance
for any reason at any time, provided they give 30 days written notice. This agreement may be
modified at any time with concurrence of all signatories.
Signed on this 18th day of April,
