NLM Names Chief of Bibliographic Services Division

David Gillikin has been appointed Chief of NLM's Bibliographic Services Division (BSD), under the Division of Library Operations. He brings 23 years of experience in libraries and scientific publishing to the position, and has headed the Library's MEDLARS Management Section since 2003. In that role, he has been involved in numerous important projects relating to public access, digital content, the evolution of MEDLINE, and usability and accessibility of databases.

Before coming to NLM, Gillikin worked at HighWire Press, where he was a technical manager and headed their Journal Production Department. Prior to that, he was at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, where he was responsible for the development and management of the "Science Online" Internet products.

"David's unique experience both in libraries and publishing will be especially helpful to us in the years ahead," observed Sheldon Kotzin, NLM Associate Director for Library Operations, who announced the appointment. David Gillikin holds a BS in biology with a minor in chemistry from Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina, and an MS in library and information science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In addition, he completed coursework toward a PhD in biochemistry at the University of Tennessee/Oak Ridge National Laboratories.
