NLM Director named to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences has named NLM Director, Donald A.B. Lindberg, M.D., one of 175 new Fellows. The Academy was founded in 1780 by John Adams and others to honor the finest minds and most influential leaders of each generation.

Fellows and Foreign Honorary Members are nominated and elected to the Academy by current members. The membership is broad-based, including scholars, scientists, and leaders from the humanities, arts, public affairs, and business. The membership includes 170 Nobel Laureates and 50 Pulitzer Prize winners. Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton are among this year's new Fellows.

Dr. Lindberg, a pathologist by training and a medical informatician, has directed the National Library of Medicine since 1984.
