View of Kohala Volcano
Photograph by T.J. Takahashi on December 26, 1990.

Cones along Kohala's rift zone rise above the south flank of the volcano. The construction of cones is typical of the post-shield stage of evolution of Hawaiian volcanoes. Lava flows of the post-shield cover older, shield-stage flows on these slopes.
