Basic Information

EPA and many other organizations are harnessing the power of innovation to achieve environmental progress. This pursuit is driven by increasingly complex environmental problems, such as global climate change, polluted runoff, and loss of habitat and biodiversity that often defy conventional regulatory solutions. Other factors driving environmental innovation include the need to measure and show results, budgetary constraints that require agencies to do more with less, and a set of single media environmental laws that do not account for the synergistic effects that occur in nature.

This website is designed to provide information about innovations that are shaping the next generation of environmental policy. Managed by EPA's National Center for Environmental Innovation on behalf of the agency, it provides a variety of resources to spur innovation and improve environmental results. Most of the content focuses on innovation in EPA programs, however, visitors will also find links to innovative practices and information evolving in States, in the private sector, and in other governmental and non-governmental institutions, as well as links to separate, single media environmental laws that do not account for the connectedness of our air, land, and water resources.
