Celebrate National Drinking Water Week!
May 3 - 9, 2009
Think about this:
Of all the Earth’s water, most of it is ocean or seas. (97%)
About two percent of the world’s water is frozen and therefore unusable. (2%)
That leaves a little less than one percent of the Earth’s water suitable for drinking water. (1%).
Please, take some time this month to think about how precious our water supply is and find out what you can do to help protect it!

May 3rd - 9th is National Drinking Water Week! This year, EPA Headquarters celebrates by participating as guest educators at "Exclusive Math and Science Day" at the Six Flags America, Washington DC/Baltimore. Between 4,500 and 7,000 middle schoolers are expected to attend the event. EPA, in celebration of the Year of Science, will host a variety of activities including a demonstration of a ground water model, which will help students envision and appreciate the importance of ground water, how the water cycle works, and how drinking water sources can be contaminated by human activities.
For your own celebration, why not help a child build an aquifer in a cup? Visit our “Kids Stuff” Pages for step-by-step instructions, complete with narration and visual support. Kids Stuff, For Teachers (Grades 4-8)
