Event Description: The Friends of Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge will be hosting Wildlife and Landscape drawing classes at the Wallkill National Wildlife Refuge starting January 10, 2009. Classes will be held at the refuge headquarters on the second Saturday of each month through December. A choice of two sessions is offered. The morning class is from 10 am to 1 pm. The afternoon class starts at 2 pm until 5 pm. Registration is required – call 201-320-5495 The first few classes cover basic drawing techniques, to help build skills. As the weather warms we will take the drawing classes out doors where we will begin to explore perspective and “seeing” nature. Different mediums and techniques will be demonstrated and students will have an opportunity to try these methods. These classes are geared towards adult and teenage skill levels. Basic materials will be provided for most aspects of the course, but students are encouraged to purchase their own tools as the course progresses so they can get the most out of the class as well as to practice at home. No experience necessary. It is recommended but not required, to attend all of the classes. Enrollment may vary and reservations are required. Skilled artists who simply want the opportunity to draw from mounts and natural settings are welcome. To cover materials, there will be a fee of $5 per class. Members of the Friends of the Wallkill River Refuges are eligible to pay a one time fee of $30 for the entire year series of 12 classes. Each year the USFWS hosts a Duck Stamp and Junior Duck Stamp competition. Duck mounts will be available to work from, for those who would like to submit artwork to the competition. For those interested in either program, we can provide further information on the competition requirments and submission process.
