The Beartooth Pass is set to reopen to travel Saturday morning.
The Beartooth Highway, the section of US-212 linking Red L0dge, Montana, with Cooke City, Silver Gate, and the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park, was open intermittently over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
However, heavy snows and a subsequent avalanche on the Montana section of the highway have kept the road temporarily closed for several days.
Road crews from Yellowstone National Park and the Montana Department of Transportation have once again cleared the road and are completing repairs so the road can reopen to travelers Saturday morning.
Park road crews have also been able to clear snow from the road between Tower Fall and Canyon Junction over Dunraven Pass. It opens for the season at 8 o’clock Saturday morning.
Once the Beartooth Highway and Dunraven Pass open Saturday, all park roads and entrances will be open to travel.
Visitors to the area should be prepared for cold weather, rain or snow this time of year. This could result in short travel delays if snow accumulates on high elevation roads and passes.
Current road information is available 24 hours a day by calling 307-344-2117.
