YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK NEWS RELEASE
----------------------------------------------------
West Entrance Station Construction
Will Temporarily Limit Some Off-Season Park Access
Construction of a new entrance station will require the temporary closure of the West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park for several weeks.
The closure, set to begin on Sunday night, March 9, and extend through Friday, April 4, is necessary to move the canopy from the existing entrance station to the new entrance station that is currently under construction.
Moving the canopy will involve the use of three large cranes which require on-site assembly, as well as disassembly prior to their removal from the site. The canopy will require bracing and structural stabilization prior to the move and will be supported and moved on two large trucks.
The entrance closes to snowmobile and snowcoach travel on Sunday evening, March 9, and isn’t scheduled to reopen for automobile access until Friday, April 18.
This temporary closure will impact a very limited number of park visitors, but will delay the start of off-season bicycle access between West Yellowstone and Mammoth Hot Springs. The Riverside Trail, which bypasses the construction, will remain open for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
