YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK NEWS RELEASE
----------------------------------------------------
Yellowstone Continues Mandatory Fishing Restrictions
Some rivers and creeks in Yellowstone National Park will continue to be closed to fishing each day between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. until further notice.
These restrictions, which took effect on July 21, affect the Yellowstone, Madison, Firehole, Gibbon and Falls rivers including several of their tributaries. Details are available on the park website at: http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/fishing.htm.
The restrictions were implemented due to low water flows and high water temperatures. Water levels continue to decrease, and continued high air temperatures have resulted in high afternoon water temperatures, which can be stressful and even fatal for trout.
The rivers will continue to be evaluated on a weekly basis and restrictions will be lifted as conditions allow. Angler cooperation with these restrictions will help to protect the park fisheries and may preclude the need for additional fishing restrictions and closures.
The extended forecast calls for a slight chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms with continued hot and dry conditions that will contribute to continued low stream flows and high water temperatures.
