Bison Released From Stephens Creek Facility

Yellowstone National Park released 52 bison from the Interagency bison capture facility at Stephens Creek on Sunday morning, June 10. The bison had been captured on Friday by the Montana Department of Livestock outside the park’s western boundary, and shipped to the facility near Gardiner.

Rangers opened the gates to the facility and the bison moved southward and farther into the park. Rangers on horseback guided the herd around roadways and developed areas until they reached the Blacktail area east of Undine Falls.

Bison hazing operations are continuing this week on the west side of the park.
