Flat Fire Information
Started: 14 Sep / Out:
UTMs: 4913.5N x 545.6 E.
This page may not be updated daily because there may be no new fire activity to report.
The Flat fire is located just off the Flat Mountain Arm. This is a remote area and the fire is also small, 0.1 of an acre. It is in unburned timber but surrounded by the 1988 burn and the lake. There is no threat to personnel or structures and no need to close any trails or campsites.
Update - 08 Oct - Mon
Fire monitors were on the Sulphur Fire today. There was no growth on this fire, some activity in jackpots of heavy down and dead fuels. Similar activity was reported on the Little fire by the Mt. Holmes lookout. There was no recon on the Flat fire as the last recon on Sunday reported only smoldering activity in the ground fuels.
Update - 06 Oct - Sat
Even though the temperatures moderated today with low RH's and moderate winds, there was no acreage growth to report today. The Sulphur and Little fires became active in the late afternoon, but it was mainly burning concentrations of down and dead fuels in from the perimeter. Fire monitors were on the ground on the Sulphur fire and aerial recons were done on the Sulphur, Little and Flat. No new fire activity was reported on the Stone, Arthur or Falcon fires.
Update - 05 Oct - Fri
This fire continued to burn on the ground and put up a lot of smoke but did not grow appreciably in size, size remains at 10 acres. This fire will be reconned by air as the fire behavior activity does not warrant the boat trip to place fire monitors on the fire.
Update - 04 Oct - Thu
There was no growth increase on the Flat fire today. This fire continues to smolder and burn on the ground for minimal growth. This fire will be monitored by aerial recon unless fire activity increases.
Update - 03 Oct - Wed
Fire monitors visited the Flat fire today via boat - Dave Hill took 3 monitors in on the Warwood. This is the first time we have had monitors on the ground on the Flat fire due to no landing spots nearby. The fire does not have much down and dead 1000 hour fuels and is burning in the ground fuels and is not torching out trees. It has not grown much in the last burning period and the size remains at 10 acres. Recon flights will be conducted periodically on this fire and it is very remote and poses no threat to life or property.
Update - 02 Oct - Tue
There were no fire monitors on the ground today but the fire was mapped by GPS with the updated acreage list at 10-- no gain from Monday. The plan is to place three fire monitors on the fire on Wednesday via boat. Fuel samples and weather observations will be taken to provide information for improved fire behavior predictions on this fire.
Update - 01 Oct - Mon
A recon flight was conducted on the Flat fire. The fire continues to burn on the ground and has not torched few if any trees. The fire shape is long and thin, burning along a bench above Flat Mt. Arm. The current acreage is 10 acres, a gain of 5 acres since last mapped.
Update - 25 Sep - Tue
There was minimal fire behavior activity reported from the Flat fire today. The fire continued to burn on the ground and did not grow in size. This fire meets all criteria to continue to burn as a fire use fire.
Update - 24 Sep - Mon
The Flat fire was monitored by the Mount Holmes lookout and the report from the helicopter flight was a small increase in activity with the fire continuing to burn in the 1000 hour fuels on the ground. This fire is in a remote area and continues to meet all criteria to burn as a fire use fire.
