Cascade Fire Information

Started: 19 Jul / Out:

UTMs:  502.58 x 4896.89

Reported by Terry McEneaney on 19 Jul 01. This fire is located near Ranger Lake in Bechler Canyon on the Pitchstone Plateau in timber vegetation. The fire is located about .5 mile north of 9B4 about 150 yards upslope on the southeast side of the trail.

28 Jul - Update:

This fire was overflown by Fire Management Officer Phil Perkins and Sub District Ranger Dave Ross. No smoke or any fire activity was noted and the fire had not grown since the last visit on 7/24. The plan was for Dave Ross to hike into the fire and check it for any hot spots and see if it is out or not. Again, this fire is probably out but will be visited by the Infrared unit before being called out.

24 Jul - Update:
No smoke or flame was seen as we flew over it. It had no noticeable growth since the last visit on Saturday. Due to its location and the time it takes to land and hike into it, we just flew over it. The vegetation is still very green and it will take a significant drying trend for this fire to survive and grow. The fire will be monitored daily by the Mount Sheridan lookout and the Bechler Rangers as they are in the area.

20 Jul - Update:

Fire monitors visited the fire today (20 Jul 01), less than 0.1 of an acre. The fire is consuming the duff but only smoldering in the duff and burning in the 1000 hour fuels at present. Confirmed lightning fire, spruce-fir forest, with some large trees some 4'dbh. There are no recent burned areas around this fire so it has continuous fuels all the way up the Bechler Canyon drainage. The area is dry but green at this time. No immediate threat to 9B4 or any hikers / riders on the trail. Again has potential if the summer ever dries out. If it rains we are ok to allow this to burn. Plan is to visit the fire again with monitors on Saturday. All ok for the present.
