What does a partnership with theCommunity-based Restoration Program entail? |
A: |
Partnerships occur at national, regional, and local
levels and bring together a wide range of people and organizations, including:
- Community organizations
- Public, nonprofit, and not-for-profit groups
- Government agencies
- Businesses
- Commercial and recreational fishing organizations
- Students and educational institutions
- Youth conservation corps
- Private land owners
Partners leverage federal resources with contributions from a variety of public and private sources. Partners are encouraged to match NOAA Restoration Center funds with their own funds, as well as with in-kind support from other organizations at the local level. To date, the Program has invested $55 million, which has resulted in on-the-ground restoration contributions valued at about $120 million. Partnership contributions for community-based restoration projects can include:
- Cash and in-kind services such as donation of materials, earthmoving equipment
- Technical assistance for restoration site selection, design, and evaluation
- Land
- Workforce support or other in-kind services, especially those that promote citizens’ hands-on involvement
- Local stewardship and monitoring to sustain and evaluate the success of the restoration over time.
