Subject: Reimbursement for Use of Privately Owned Conveyances
(FTR Amendment 2005-07; FTR Case 2005-308)
Attached is a copy of page 876, Federal Register, Volume 71, No. 4, dated
Friday, January 6, 2006, which contains amendment 2005-07 to the Federal Travel
Regulation (FTR).
Amendment 2005-07, changes 41 CFR Part 301-10.303 to decrease the mileage
reimbursement rate from 48.5 cents per mile to 44.5 cents per mile for use of a
privately owned automobile, when authorized as advantageous to the Government.
The decreased rate is effective for travel performed on or after January 1,
2006.
At this time, this change only affects the mileage reimbursement for privately
owned automobiles. GSA is obtaining data to determine if an increase or decrease
in the mileage reimbursement allowances is warranted for motorcycles and
airplanes. The amendment does not change the authorized reimbursement rates for
the use of a privately owned:
(1) aircraft -- $1.07 per mile,
(2) motorcycle -- 30.5 cents per mile,
(3) automobile for personal preference when a Government owned vehicle is
available -- 28.5 cents per mile, and,
(4) automobile for personal preference when a Government owned vehicle is
assigned directly to an employee – 12.5 cents per mile.
